Awards Event Animated Introduction – National Bed Federation

We’re all used to watching animation on screen, whether it’s on a phone, a computer monitor or a TV screen. There’s something about the energy of a shared experience that makes live shows special. That’s why we love it when we get to create animated live event introduction videos, backgrounds and interactive content. For this year’s National Bed Awards, we got to do just that.

We’d worked with the National Bed Federation before for National Bed Week, but this was a very different kind of project. Instead of simple charm and fun 2D characters, the order of the day here was 3D drama, wowing the room into giving full attention to the stage.

It went really well. We certainly created the effect we were hoping for and had some comments that it was the best gala dinner and awards ceremony yet, in part due to the theatrical animations!

There’s more to this project than meets the eye. You can only see one video here, and that’s just a taster. On the night, though, there were three screens, each running separate, linked animations, giving a different 3D perspective. That was true for the opening of the event, and the introductions to each award through the course of the evening. The left and right screens swerved and bent around sweeping paths to maximise the effect. Meanwhile the central screen’s show pushed straight out, maximise clarity & legibility from the front.

Tom led on this, and he had a real passion for the technical challenge: “I particularly enjoyed integrating geometry nodes into the animation to make it easily adaptable to the different angles, and to make sure they all stayed in sync with the music.”

The  gala dinner and awards ceremony took place at the Telford International Centre on Tuesday 20th September. A good time was had by all, and we’re proud to have been part of it.
